Membership Inquiries

The Prospective Member or Waiting List is currently closed and will not reopen until the number of prospective members remaining equals the estimated number of openings for a one to two year period. When the list is opened, it is typically for a two week period during which Senior and Life members may sponsor individuals for membership. All applicants must be sponsored, and applications are not made available or accepted while the list is closed. The Association last opened its waiting list to new applicants during 2013 and, as a result, currently has a list of prospective members which contains sufficient names for probably the next 2 to 3 years.

Although the Association is a private organization, there are sometimes a limited number of openings for non-members to participate in the various leagues and activities which take place, primarily during the Fall and Winter months.  In addition, non-members are welcome to make use of Association facilities as a guest of any current Senior or Life member.  The most effective way to keep informed as to these various opportunities, including the opening of the waiting list, is to identify a current member among your friends and associates and advise them of your interest.

Boy Scout Troop 9 of Danbury Camps Out at FCFGPA

For over 20 years Fairfield County Fish & Game Protective Association has allowed Boy Scouts from Troop 9 in Danbury to camp on their property.  We time the annual March campout to occur between hunting seasons so there is no conflict with the use of the property. Attendance varies for many reasons but we have had as many as 15 - 20 scouts a year participate in this campout.  Many of the scouts have said this is their favorite campout of the year.

The Scouts call this campout “Wilderness Survival” because they hike into the campsite from the parking lot with all their gear.  It is about a half mile walk. They build their own shelters out of what they find in the woods and perhaps a tarp brought from home.  The boys and leaders cook over camp fires.  No stoves are allowed.  The fires are built from downed wood we find in the area.  Of course it is not really roughing it. We encourage the boys to get creative with the meals they prepare.  Over the years they have cooked a variety of things from steak and potatoes to mac and cheese.

Scouting skills are taught/learned/practiced during the day.  These typically include knot tying and lashing, ax and saw use safety, and orienteering.  The boys can also work on merit badges such as cooking.  We will frequently take a hike and see the river and other features of this beautiful club.

Usually at night we have a camp fire where the boys will do skits or lead games.  Then it is off to sleep in the shelters they have built.  They are in sleeping bags of course.

In the morning we rebuild the fires and cook breakfast.  The boys bring breakfast to cook and not just cereal or Pop-Tarts.  This is usually a variation of breakfast burritos or some other egg meal.  Then we break camp, douse the fires, and hike back out to the parking lot.

Over the years we have had all kinds of weather from snow with temperatures in the low teens to beautiful sunny days with temperatures above sixty degrees.  All of these provide different challenges and learning opportunities for the scouts.

All the leaders and scouts of Troop 9, Danbury thank FCF&GPA for their kindness allowing us to use the club property to grow and enjoy great experiences over the years.
